Prayer Plaque / Artists Palette

Originally an ‘Ema’ (wooden plaque used by Shinto and Buddhist worshippers to record prayers and wishes) but then used by an unknown artist as a paint palette. From worship to workshop - Quite an abstraction. Muted tones on fragile wood. A truly unique piece of art.

Late Edo – Meiji period / 19th Century.
